The 2024 School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Regalia Hooding and Graduation Ceremonies of the Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) were successfully held this Friday, July 19, 2024, at the Iloilo Convention Center. The afternoon event marked a significant milestone for the 154 graduating students, their families, and the university community.
This year’s ISUFST graduates include 17 master’s and 11 doctorate degree programs. The graduates come from the College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (26), College of Education (95), College of Management (17), College of Agriculture (7) and College of Information Technology (9).
In his commencement address, Dr. Francisco Magno, Director of the DLSU Jesse M. Robredo Institute of Governance, emphasized the importance of perseverance and leadership in navigating the challenges of today’s world. “Graduates, you are the future leaders who will bring innovative solutions to the world. Your journey does not end here; it is just beginning,” Dr. Magno said, inspiring the graduates to pursue their dreams with determination.
University President Dr. Nordy Siason Jr., presented the candidates for graduation and conferred the degrees. He congratulated the graduates, stating, “Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance have brought you to this momentous occasion. Continue to strive for excellence and make a positive impact in your respective fields.”
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Joan Belga, in her welcome remarks, highlighted the university’s commitment to excellence and societal progress. “The knowledge and expertise you have acquired are powerful tools for catalyzing positive change. You are now entrusted with the responsibility of carrying forward the torch of knowledge and wisdom into the global arena, serving as catalysts for progress and champions of innovation.”
For his part, Dr. Stephen Raymund Jinon, Director of the School of Graduate Studies, expressed his pride in the graduates’ achievements. “This ceremony is a testament to your hard work and the unwavering support of your families and mentors. May you continue to uphold the values and knowledge you have gained here at ISUFST,” Dr. Jinon stated.
The event also featured the vesting of academic hoods and the awarding of diplomas and academic awards. The graduates from various programs, including Doctor of Fisheries Technology, Master of Fisheries Technology, and Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management, among others, were recognized for their academic accomplishments.
The ceremony concluded with the induction of graduates into the ISUFST Alumni Association by Regent Carlito Delfin, President of the Federated Alumni Association. The new alumni pledged to uphold the ideals of their alma mater and contribute to its legacy.
The 2024 SGS Regalia Hooding and Graduation Ceremonies were considered to be a resounding success, celebrating the academic achievements and future potential of the graduates. The university community looks forward to the continued success of its alumni as they embark on their professional journeys.
Meanwhile, it is worthy to note that ISUFST is set to introduce six new graduate school programs in the next academic year, pending approval from CHED. These programs include the Master of Arts in Education with majors in Mathematics, Science, and English, and the Doctor of Philosophy in Education with majors in Mathematics, Science, and English Language Teaching. This initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing ISUFST’s educational offerings and providing advanced academic opportunities for students in the region. If approved, these new programs will commence in the Academic Year 2024-2025, with the Ph.D. in Education Major in English Language Teaching being a pioneering offering in Western Visayas.
