The Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) kicked off the first day of the Panday Kinaadman seminar workshop entitled “Development of University Creative Works Operations Manual and Strategic Planning” this Wednesday, May 8, 2024. The two-day event, now being held at the conference room on the main campus in Tiwi, focused on enhancing the university’s creative and scholarly projects.
The workshop, attended by the members of the University Creative Works Office (UCWO) team of the university, began with opening remarks from Dr. Joan Belga, Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasizing the need for innovative frameworks to support informed decision-making and transparent processes in academic assessments. Dr. Herman Lagon, Director of Public Affairs, Marketing, and Communications, reiterated the transformative potential of the UCWO, outlining the objectives and the expected impact of this newly established entity, a vision that should inspire and motivate the UCWO team.
UCWO Director Michle Celeste introduced the UCWO’s structure, policies, and agenda, setting the stage for a series of in-depth discussions. Prof. Martin Genodepa from the UP Visayas Office of Initiatives for Culture and the Arts led the first topic, discussing the intersection of scholarly research and artistic creativity and its implications for academic publications and community transformation.
Subsequent sessions will feature Dr. Randy Madrid, who will explore the role of cultural works in community transformation, and Ms. Marianne Bebit from the Intellectual Property Satellite Office-Iloilo, who is set to provide an overview of copyright procedures and online filing for creative works.
Day 2, Prof. Noel Galon de Leon will start discussing strategies for publishing, sourcing, and funding creative projects. This will be followed by a workshop where all UCWO team members are expected to work collaboratively on refining the UCWO Operations Manual and begin drafting the UCWO Strategic Plan for 2024-2028. It will also cover the presentation of domain plans across visual, performing, and literary arts, leading to the finalization of outputs and the awarding of certificates. (Dr. Herman M. Lagon/PAMCO)
